Cook County Bar Association Welcomes Emmerson Buie Jr., Special Agent in Charge of Chicago’s FBI Field Office
On September 17, 2019, Emmerson Buie, Jr., was named as the FBI Special Agent in Charge over the Chicago field office, becoming the first African American to serve in this post. The Cook County Bar Association (“CCBA”) acknowledges this accomplishment and welcomes Mr. Buie.
Mr. Buie is a Western Illinois University graduate. Prior to joining the FBI, he served for four years in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer. He served in Operation Desert Storm and was awarded a Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and multiple other commendations and awards. Mr. Buie joined the FBI in 1992 and has vast experience in criminal and national security matters. Most recently, he served as the Special Agent in Charge of the El Paso, Texas, field office. In that capacity, in August 2019, Mr. Buie led the investigation of the El Paso mass shooter who killed 22 people inside a Walmart.
CCBA invites Mr. Buie to engage in conversations with us on law enforcement issues facing the Black community in Chicago. CCBA hopes that by initiating a dialogue with CCBA and other members of the Black community, issues such as drug interdiction methods and excessive force by law enforcement, surveillance and privacy concerns, and the flow of guns into Chicago that contributes to the violence that plagues our communities can begin to be resolved.
